James holds USA Judo rank of Godan. He started judo in 1975 at Purdue University Judo Club in West Lafayette, Indiana and has over 35 years active in judo.. He joined Denver Judo in 2005 and is a certified Continental USA Judo coach and a National Referee - Emeritus serving over 25 years as USA Judo National referee. He competed in over 750 regional, national and international veterans and senior men's matches between 1995 and today and has collected many national veterans, and senior metals as a competitor placing 3rd in World Masters and has metaled several times at both senior and masters national events. He is a member of the CJL promotion board and teaches noon classes, kata classes and supports club activities.
